The Circle Of Life Poem by Libby Harvey

The Circle Of Life

Trekking around the circle of life, I wander.
Looking for the path to happiness.
Waiting patiently, praying faithfully.

A valley appears, soaked with abandoned land.
Trees, whose roots sucked dry and life deprived.
Grass, shriveled into dirt that blows with the wind.
No trace of wildlife, or cloud in the sky.
For miles and miles deadness lies.
With no clear path, I stumble on.

I come to a mountain.
The highest peak lies at my feet.
With no clear path I follow the little voice in my head.
Higher and higher I climb.
Looking for a little sign with an arrow that points to the direction I should go.
Days pass, fatigue sets in.
My mind questions if this will end.
A slope appears, with gravel rock.
Looking down. I step in faith.

Down the mountain I go, running swiftly.
Jumping with glee of victory.
I trip, and fall.
Crashing into the bed of rocks below.
I stay down until I regain my strength.
Taking a deep breath I get up….
My eyes seem deceived.
I have fallen into where I need to be.

Green and blue meet on the horizon.
Life is laid before me.
I stare in disbelief.
This must be some dream I can’t stop dreaming.
Wandering, stumbling, I have fallen here.
Right into this happy place.
