The Divine Watchers Keeping The Vigil Poem by Mohammad Younus

The Divine Watchers Keeping The Vigil

The divine watchers keeping the vigil,
In moonless and moonlit nights,
Greeting the rising sun;
And the birds have opened their eyes,
Preparing to fly out of their nests,
To sing cheerful notes in bushes,
And on boughs and treetops.

Wearing their musical robes,
The mystics go into the holy temple,
To listen to the word of God in their heart;
In mystical silence, they get absorbed,
In the sound of the auspicious bells.

O talkative man, you would boast that,
You would be the first to wake up;
Why don't you get up to stand before your lord?
Get up and sing the praises to your lord,
The all-pervading and all-beautiful Lord,
Calling you affectionately by your pillow:
O my dear child!
Come on, and sit in my lap to stare at my face.
