Thoughts of a Single Man

The Dolphins Of The Dawn - Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

Majestically they twirl in the swim of harmony
beneath the calming waves
communicating between each other in sweeping echoes
as they explore the waters routes
deep in the blue swirl
maneuvering the ivory of the coral reefs
they flow as one
as they seek refuge from the weather above
they are the peaceful shimmers that glimmer
in the stitches in the fabric of love
for it as been told
that they are so close to the minds of man
that they can communicate their feelings
like a note placed in the open hand
they dive deeper into the aqua void
sweetly moving amongst the creeping creatures below
where their destination lies only they know
guided by the implausible route led by the lords of the sea
poised as they flutter in the glow of Poseidon's trident
they are the mystical impression made in the shade
that swoons in the darkness that bellows from the oceans floor
as they mingle and merge in the buoyancy of it all
as if they were partners in a mythical dance
and if you are among the fortunate ones
you may just have a chance to see them as they soar
but you must rise with the mist of the new dawn
for that is the only time you will see their leaping forms
for they make their presence known when the day has begun
springing from the waves in the light if the warming sun
as in unison they climb together
awaiting to breach the ceiling of the surface
I know this for I am the poet
and in the twinkles of the escaping night
is when I sit in somber silence weaving the words I write
for these are the moments when the phrases take form
held strong within my mind
as if they were suspended in the cradle of time
the empty pages beckon me as the ink begins to fall
and off in the distance I can hear the dolphins call
blessing me with their eyes and a smile that never fades
making arching silhouettes against the fiery sky
until they sink swiftly beneath the waves
we know each other
for they see me on the edges of the beach
sitting there on the rocks cultivating the words that fill me
as I release them to the reading eye
the molten rays begin to spill over me and the sea
laying sparkling dots on the rolling crests
like the fireflies at night captured softly in their flight
twinkling as if torn from the stories remembered of old
the treasures of the seas tales of fabled jewels and long lost gold
perhaps they are the long lost gods of Atlantis
for every movement seems to be enchanted
with a wisdom only the untainted can see
and each morning it seems they ascend to greet only me
I ponder as I reminisce over their harmonic tunes
have I missed the moment they swam past the hanging moon
as I finish yet another page and close my ledger
I am content that yet another poem has been spawned
I hum to myself the melody of their quiet noble song
as I wave to them once again bowing my head to my friends
and give thanks to the dolphins of the dawn
