The Early Morning Blackness Is Threatened Only By Grey

THE EARLY MORNING BLACKNESS IS THREATENED ONLY BY GREY

The early morning blackness is threatened only by grey
A world that has not begun to move still sleeps
I alone wake and wonder and wait and write
Time has gone so far away from me
So much Memory has been lost
And yet in all the darkness and all the waiting
Beyond this morning and every morning
A surprising light knows it will come
And I like a suddenly awakened dreamer
Will walk into the day
Dazed but not unhappy.
