The Edict Of Mayflies The Caddis Flies Poem by Mark Heathcote

The Edict Of Mayflies The Caddis Flies

I garden the flower bud of your lips.
Those kisses, divine, please don't wilt.
Let nothing between us be an eclipse
Let no Morning Glory star be sealed.

'From our eyes'

I ponder the night and the Day -Lily
How shrivelled it is before the dawn
And still, each morning opens frilly.
Yes, frillier than ever each morning.

'For our eyes'

I watch the wings of nymphs.
The Edict of Mayflies the Caddis flies.
Floating like a feather, how each exists
On the breeze and testifies

'Look through my eyes.'

The world holds so much beauty.
It is magnified by love.
It is holier than anything sweetly dewy.
It is held in a diamond glove.

'Until our eyes are closed
Once again'

I cherish the rosehip of your cheeks.
And my arms about your bodice
Flung around God's masterpiece
I am sure he oversees

'Through your eyes
My darling here tonight and everywhere'
