The Embers Poem by Sheila Knowles

The Embers

Rating: 3.5

I was just flicking ash
on burnt out phrases
scraping jaded thoughts
in hardened wax
digging out my dreams
from dusty corners
and trying to kindle fire
with weary coals

but then your eyes
saw light in words
that could not glisten,
and the subtleties of sounds
sung for your ears,
you felt the warmth
in sentiments that shivered
because you trusted
in the flame
of who I am

This poem flows with a sense of realness. There seems to be a tone of searching... am I right? Excellent poem. All the best, Seán
