The English Philistines: (A Sardonic Sonnet)

We are the boorish, English philistines
And we expect everyone else on earth
To speak our language. We are backward swine.
When we're on holiday, for what's its worth,
We don't need fancy restaurants to wine
And dine. We prefer full English breakfasts
Full of calories: sausage, bacon, fried
Eggs, beans, toast and black pudding, that will last
Us through the day, as we burn and turn red,
In the baking hot, mid- day sun in resorts
Like Magaluf or Benidorm. We head
To the bars at night, as we've always been taught,
To get drunk and fight to our heart's delight.
To us, other cultures are piles of shite!
