The Epitome Of Ladies To Love Poem by Denis Martindale

The Epitome Of Ladies To Love

We can remember words, as well as phrases,
concerning the sophisticated or debonair woman.
She could be fashionable, knowledgeable,
graceful, outspoken, sincere,
charitable, polite, resourceful,
A cavalier pioneer, a champion of the unfairly treated.

One who shares herself and her resources
is sometimes called bountiful or beautiful,
As if captivating the hearts and souls of men.
A dreamgirl, or one casting a love spell,
like an enchantress, a siren, or a heart-breaker.

Or some winsome, fancy fantasy girl
dressed in all the upper-class trimmings
of the Hollywood glamour-girl films of yesteryear.
Someone like Marilyn Monroe in all her finery,
seen now through the distant memories of such films.
When pinup girls like Jayne Mansfield were all the rage,
just as she portrayed herself in her fashionable films.

Elegant ladies, cherished by their devoted admirers,
As if royalty, yet with the jewellery to prove it
and the high-class accents and vocabulary skills.
These were the most eligible spinsters,
or they had married well into money.

Perhaps society debutantes,
aiming high, reaching high.
Cultured, ambitious, prominent,
flamboyant, vibrant, effervescent.
Whatever they were, they dominated
and maintained attention.

They were the show-stoppers, the scene-stealers.
They were and are the ladies,
the ladies that nobody could dismiss or ignore.
Often adorable, often considered perfect,
and not just as role models or fashion models,
as many a lady could get portrayed.

No, they had charisma, they had charm,
they were and are the real deal, and therefore,
the epitome of ladies to love.
