The Essence Of All Essences Poem by Mohammad Younus

The Essence Of All Essences

The essence of all essences,
Heart of all hearts, soul of all souls—
The divine command,
Enfolding itself in sweetness,
Spreading through the universe,
Reaching as far as the farthest star.

The command of interconnectedness—
We revere!
Behold, nothing more can contain
The essential command:
It clings to me, to you,
To all things in creation.

Like a walnut—kernel within,
Oil in the kernel,
Light in the oil,
Light encased, hidden, unending—
Yearning to be known,
Revealing its secret in time.

From beyond, a brightness like the sun,
Radiant and glowing,
Turning you luminous.
Already, within you, it awakens—
What will outlast the suns.

How shall I cradle my love,
so it does not brush against the shadows—
the doubts that whisper in quiet corners,
the fears that linger beneath the surface?
How shall I lift it above all things,
when even the heavens seem too incapacious?

Ah, I cannot lock my love away,
not even with treasures,
hidden deep in some strange, dark chest—
for it trembles there,
resonating with the depths of my heart,
filling the silence with its light.

Love touches us—me and you—
and carries us together,
like the stroke of a bow,
pulling one chord from two strings.

On what instrument are we strung?
What artist holds us in their hand?
O sweet, eternal song of love.
