The fountain
That today gurgles modest
Was all around
For centuries
In the drear of days
In the ogre of calamities
Under the wings of tragedies
It called out aloud in pain
And
Rarely in its eyes appeared a tear
Of brine
But yes, tears of blood-red wine
And
Eyes of sheer despair
And
Light, fire, and air
That passed the examination of the centuries
And are still overing.
