The Front Porch Swing! Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

The Front Porch Swing!

Rating: 2.8

Sitting on the front porch swing
The two of us feeling high.
Watching horses in the meadow,
My country girl and I.

The dirt road from the valley,
That passes just out of sight,
Brings the logging trucks and tractors,
From dawn until the early night.

The old church on the hilltop,
With it’s steeple standing tall
Points the way up to the heavens,
And reminds us that we are small.

We call it our Ponderosa.
But that’s only for a laugh.
It’s a little house on a prairie,
But in our hearts it’s just as grand.

If home is where the heart is,
Then anywhere the sky is blue,
I’ll be at home on our front porch swing,
As long as you are on it too!
