The Hand That Reached Out To Me Poem by Pen Anthony

The Hand That Reached Out To Me

Rating: 2.0

I put up a brave face
I suffered in silence
Never letting it tear my smile
But it did take a toll on me

My head became a warzone
Sane thoughts coming under fire
From suicidal thoughts
I was depressed

My head became a threat to me
They say denial is the toughest fight
I was soon to learn
I needed help

I hoped my friends would reach out to me
They did by telling me to be strong
Did they not know
i was succumbing to that same strength

It was a thanks but no thanks
Well until a hand reached out to me
A hand i had never shaken before
But when it reached out for me
It was reassuring

It never let go
Led me to the confines of my sanity
Where it was filled with paintings of my worth
She led me through
As if she knew the route by heart

She walked with me
Never straining my stride
Never tiring of my stops
My wanting to turn back

When it got dark and
I could not see a thing
I felt the firm grip
Of the hand that reached out to me.
