The Hearts We Broke Poem by Adams King

The Hearts We Broke

I was told the beast chances in life
are the ones we never took
The most friendly hands in life
are the ones we never shook

I was told the best moments in life
are the Ines we ignore
The meaningless ones
we pay attention to the more

How was I to know
That paradise comes in disguise
I was after the glittering gold
I was only a man of my eyes

Why dress an angle in tattered rags
and the devil in designer wears
Who do you think will take my heart
For I love all things bright and fair

How was I to know
The hell that makes a heaven
nor the furnace that makes a gold
I was after stars that twinkles

How was I to understand
That patience plays a better part
In revealing the beauty inside
and unmasking my angel's ugly heart

Truly I was told, now I know
The heart we broke and lost
in the careless road we roam
Were the ones made for us
