The Heater Near Me Burns Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

The Heater Near Me Burns

The heater near me burns
Glad and warm
Not singing
Not sounding
But ah! a fireplace
a chimney over roof
and waves of warmth
and fire strong as ire
First Fire, insatiable desire
The burning logs
Their crackling
Sounds
Restless
Crackling
Again
Again and again
In ancient house
In old Valletta!
