The Key To Freedom Poem by John A. Hancock

The Key To Freedom

To you my love I gave a kiss last night
Before to bedlam I retired
A ritual I perform each and every night
E'er since you set my heart afire
Alone was I in my chamber
Except for a memory of you I hold so dear
That one specific thought of you
That lays upon my mind so clear
A kiss to you I have yet to offer
My Courage stall'd at each and every turn
By your words I pause to hesitate in the fear
That my kiss to thee be spurn'd
For thy past lingers clinging to threads of hope
I have wound tightly around my soul
For the stains of hurt still taint thy ways
As you travel down life's rocky road
Only trust can shed the chains that bind you
From the shackles of suspicion that you wear
Let my love be the key to free thyself
From your dark prison of despair
