The Lad Of The Fifties Poem by Francis Duggan

The Lad Of The Fifties

The lad of the fifties his hair silver gray
And surely he has known a far better day
Taking blood pressure tablets to keep his blood pressure down
The long ago hero the pride of the town.

It has been awhile now one must go back in time
To nineteen sixty six when he was in his prime
When between the high sticks he booted the football
For his team's Grand Final winning goal that moment he recall.

And in his Hometown how they did celebrate
He was feted and lauded as a truly great
But that is going back forty two years ago
The young man back then now his fastest pace slow.

Now in his mid sixties and not feeling well
The years on us all do eventually tell
He did have his glorious days in the past
But young men grow older and time ticks on fast.
