The Lantern
The lantern is hanging
from the parapet like a beehive
It's wick trimmed up,
Glass globe cleaned of soot
And the body coloured.
It symbolised a Wish,
A Wish of bright future,
And guided as a mentor
It had accompanied
Many solitary nights,
Shown path in drifty darkness,
Withstood with guts
Rays of gusty wind.
The lantern swings
In the drawing room,
All Wishes and Wisdom
Displayed abound,
The wick lights up intermittently
Even when light is all around.

A light symbolises knowledge of highest order. In indian tradition, lighting a lamp or a lantern signifies a spiritual path or a guidance to take the right step. You have through this poem displayed a beautiful message of wisdom. A full score 10
