The Late Neil Duggan Poem by Francis Duggan

The Late Neil Duggan

Rating: 5.0

Neil Duggan in his young years I remember from Lisnaboy he has died far away
In Toronto in the deep south of Canada he has lived his final night and final day
Blond haired and tall the Neil I do remember I last saw him more than forty years ago
He was not an old man at most in his early sixties I hope his end was not painful and slow,
The wanderlust in his young years was in him he said goodbye to friends and family
To start a new life in a foreign City and him again I never more did see
One of the many to migrate from Cullen in a foreign Land for to start a new life
I do not know if he did father children or I do not know if he did have a wife
The Neil I recall was a very nice person but in Lisnaboy in Cullen he did not remain
And it can be said that his loss to Duhallow to Toronto surely had to be a gain
In the Lisnaboy I knew there must be changes it was a place I did love years ago
And Neil Duggan he will never again be seen in the Townland where into manhood he did grow,
Neil Duggan as a young man I remember and sad to read that he has passed away
But the clock on every life is ever ticking and for all of us a final night and day.
