The Later Rounds Are Sometimes The Hardest Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

The Later Rounds Are Sometimes The Hardest

The whole truth and nothing but the truth
Life is quickly robbing you of your youth
If you still have dreams and hopes
Better take the punches against the ropes

Gotta have some inner fight
A drive to get things right
Unless you learn to roll with every hit
Life will make you want to quit

Somtimes it hurts so much you want to die
rather than live life as a lie
When your heart beats and pounds
Pace yourself for the later rounds

Because sometimes life gets harder
though you swear you're not a martyr
Try to find your inner voice
You have to choose, you have a choice

The mark of a fighter they say
And well known to this day
Is not how many times they've been beaten down
But how they pick themselves off the ground.

Take the punches in the early rounds
Learn to smile through the frowns
Dry your tears, don't be a mourner
God is always in your corner
