The Long Way Home Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

The Long Way Home

Lonely days into lonely nights
Shadows made by the candle light
At times it seems such a heavy load
Always riding on an empty road
Pictures pass as they move along
The radio plays another song
You take the long way home

No where to go and no where to start
Destinations of a broken heart
No one there in an empty bed
But can still remember every word she said
Wondering does anyone really care
The head is bowed in another prayer
He takes the long way home

The walls seem as if they are closing in
The sound of thunder is the sound of sin
No guesses made in the time that's left
Puddles made as the tears are wept
Tiny cuts leaving tiny scars
Perhaps one day the blade will go to far
She takes the long way home

Fire burns in the breathing lung
The foot slips on another rung
A wish made on a shooting star
Never knew that the fall was so far
Afraid to see the next dealing card
Secrets kept in the ears of God
This is the long way home

Stories told how will they end
Kisses left on the weeping wind
Always waiting for the phone to ring
Know the song but still cannot sing
Accelerating on the approaching curve
The pens move to write another word
It's such a long way home

They take the long way home

We take the long way home

I take the long way home

Lonely days into lonely nights
Shadows made by the candle light
At times it seems such a heavy load
Always riding on an empty road
Pictures pass as they move along
The radio plays another song

You take the long way home
