The Love I Let Go Poem by Mariann Gentile

The Love I Let Go

Rating: 4.0

When I first looked into your eyes you swept me off my feet.
Whenever I was by your side it made me feel complete.
The first time that I saw you smile the world felt so surreal,
And when your held my hand in your my heart learned how to feel.

My strength was of 1000 men. My knees, they felt so weak.
I had a million words to say. My tongue refused to speak.
The hours felt like minutes. The minutes felt like years.
You showed me how to face the world and chased away my fears.

But now those eyes that used to shine no longer look my way.
Instead of standing by my side you turn and run away.
Your smile has become a frown, your hand is pulled away.
Instead of lifting up my spirits, you leave them disarrayed.

I cry myself to sleep at night; there's nothing I can do.
I just can't find the words to say how much I care for you.
I want so much to keep you here, but in my heart I know,
It's true that if you love someone you have to let them go.

I FOUND THIS TRITE AND TRIVIAL AND AN EXCUSE FOR WORDS TO RHYME WHICH OBSCURED THE SENTIMENT AND TRUE MEANING

Touching poem. Lots of people have been in this dark valley but have climbed the hill and found new love...it's there if you look...

Mariann I am so touched with this very touching and sad poem you wrote...I wish you were not in those situation and it is true that many married couples said that they are not perfect match because they let go their true love...It is God's will and it is not our decision....to decide who is our perfect match or married couples...Well done for a very sad and sobering poem..

i can relate to this poem so much...especially now that i am in the same situation right now... letting someone that you love so much is so difficult to do, but sometimes you just have to do it in order to be together in the end.... great poem :) kay
