The Love Of My Life Poem by H E Alexander

The Love Of My Life

The distance we cover 'tween life and death
is spanned o'er so short a time;
thus, we need to make our reason rhyme
before we breathe our last of breath.

A breath - each breath - slow-breathed into lung
gives hope of life, of love's refrain,
of wisdom-manifest and arcane-
of music, and of the songs unsung.

To sing, yet with melodic voice,
may not engage without harmony,
but to fall into a hushed dormancy
we would ne'er choose, if gifted the choice.

She chose to spend with me her life,
shared my worth times and my mean,
made me more than I could e'er have been:
the love of my life, my beloved wife.
