Till Hemera Ascends Poem by H E Alexander

Till Hemera Ascends

She comes only with my eyes full closed,
carries me with her, away to another place.
No choice have I, no will to be indisposed,
nor to be enchanted from this, my slumbering dais.
Despite the rapid movements of my eye-
searching to catch but one ephemeral gaze-
I do not ever see her. Though I perceive not why,
I could count the reasons in a thousand ways.

Waiting patiently until the lightness ebbs,
she dreams my fortune and shares my woe:
a mesmeric siren spinning intricate webs
of inducements into Morpheus' full flow.
Resolved now to breach her hypnotic alliance,
I ache with every hour that she fails to show.
O what is the use in this unnatural defiance?
I will slip under her spell come Selene's full glow.

My eyes fully closed she comes back to my bed,
I drift in unconscious tides 'tween spring and neap.
She alone can understand the tears that I shed;
only she can touch me, can penetrate so deep.
She controls my body, she dominates my mind,
playing my thoughts and limiting those I can keep.
I lie in contented peace, my soul clearly defined,
Till Hemera ascends I am abandoned to sleep.
