The New Religion Poem by H E Alexander

The New Religion

Open doors welcoming all
as the summoned faithful in their masses come.
Each boutique, every shop and stall,
offering merchandise for sale to everyone,
inside the Holy Church of the sacred Shopping Mall.

Come inside, to buy or look,
assistance given by angels earning wings.
Come cleanse thy soul and accept the hook,
receive the fulfilment that such spending brings,
reflect on the price tags, but do not study the Book.

Harken the Messiah new,
most all channels transmitting the holy word.
Hear the good sermon preached unto you;
broadcasting advertisements holding thee allured,
performing visual miracles: the new Jesu'.

Pay thy homage, if thou would,
keep faith in St Michael, St Gant and St Boss.
Receive their grace, if your credit's good.
Suffer thy abundant bags in lieu of cross,
scoff your burgers and coke; ignore His Body and Blood.
