The Maiden In The Tower Part Ii The Farm Boy Poem by Juan Olivarez

The Maiden In The Tower Part Ii The Farm Boy

A farm boy working the land, spied something bright.
From the new plowed ground, it beckoned to him.
It glowed bright red with an unearthly light,
On a piece o grass it lay, Tangled in a stem.

He reached down and picked it up in his hand,
It was a magnificent ring with a dragon's crest.
And he wiped off all the dirt and sand,
And there unbenownst to him began his quest.

The blood red stone shone so bright and pulsed,
Like a thing alive it warmed his hand.
It mesmerized him and it's glow infused,
His very soul as he did there stand.

He knew where the ring came from forthwith,
And to whom it had once belonged.
And a vision of a tower so tall and lithe,
Flashed in his unblemished mind so strong.

Back to the farm he walked enthralled,
He knew what he had to do.
He must be the cause of a sorcerors fall,
So to the stable he fairly flew.

He stood outside the stable door,
The wind whispered sadly in his ears.
A sorrowful cry he had not heard before,
Came to his mind mingled with tears.

He saw all things so clearly in his head,
He knew the quest he had to undertake.
And it would only end with the sorceror dead,
The road to that tower led by the lake.

He took the best horse that he could find,
And rode to the farmhouse to say goodbye.
Then he got on the trail that would slowly wind,
To the source from whence came the cry.

For many nights and days he rode north,
The red glow of the ring his only light.
His mind filled with awe as he rode forth,
To free the maiden from her dismal plight.

After a week he spied the tower in the haze,
And made camp by the lakes misty shore.
And wondered if these were his last days,
And what the tower and the sorceror had in store.
