The Maple Trees Poem by Bryan Taplits

The Maple Trees

Stalwart and reaching high
Two guardians of the crest,
I see the trees as they see me-
And bow to their largesse.
My neck flexed back to the limit,
So I willingly back up far,
At night the looming trees,
Tall but at ease,
Block out even the most clamant star.
Their leaves all angry and red like the dawn-
Nature's blooming and wrathful palette,
Soon they will tumble, since their times are not long,
(so it's now that I must breathe-in their flaming red songs)
Since it's only a few days that these scarlet leaves have left.
And once they are dissevered of their majesty-
The trees' arms now barren and bloodless-
I'll have to wait patiently another year to see them again-
Another year more!
Nothing less.
