Marks of humility are not displayed
Through gestures hollow, devoid of heart—
A bowed head, tense shoulders bent,
Feigning lowliness, an artless act.
True humility does not reside
In mechanical postures, rehearsed and contrived,
Nor in eyes fixed solely on the ground,
Or patched robes flaunting false renown.
Humility flows from a heart aligned,
Not in actions that deceive the mind.
It rises pure, without pretense,
Free of hypocrisy, devoid of offense.
The pious disdain such empty airs,
A show of virtue that isn't there.
For humility bears both inward grace,
And outward truth upon its face.
It serves the slave and the free alike,
The rich, the poor, the low, the high.
No favor sought, no status gained,
A heart sincere, unbound, unchained.
True humility speaks in quiet deeds,
In service offered to meet all needs.
Not in gestures false, misguided, or vain,
But in love unfeigned, without disdain.
Let khushū‘ and tawāḍu‘ be your guide,
In silence where true virtue abides.
