The Mountain Climb Poem by Margaret O Driscoll

The Mountain Climb

Rating: 5.0

Setting off in the cool of morning
A mist veiling the bay
A holy well at the base
Stations of The Cross mark the way

A quick pause at each cross
I follow the path's zig zag
Sheep marked in bright colours
Graze high above by a crag

I've climbed almost to the summit
It's over 2,000 feet high
Furze and heather blooming
The sun climbs high in the sky

At the top I see the Celtic cross
I scan the fine view beyond the bay
By the altar atop Knocknadobar
I bless myself, kneel and pray
