Going Back There Poem by Margaret O Driscoll

Going Back There

Rating: 5.0

It felt strange going back there
I'd almost forgotten the way
Suddenly it came back to me
At the turn off down to the bay
Boats moored all along the inlet
Yellow swing boats at the arcade
The viewing point on the hilltop
Just beyond where I had stayed
A fishing trawler out in the ocean
Mist sweeping in from the sea
A cliff path with a panorama
Where I'd walked happy and free

I know we are supposed to be content with where we are but there are places that fit us, like water to a fish or a swallow to a nest. Your writing brings that feeling home. There are some things that we can't control or change such as people and the ever changing world around us but there are still places that we can go to that remind us of how easily we can be happy, if we can just slip away and return to our special places. Your poem rolled through my thoughts like that slow sweeping mist...wonderful.
