The Music Poem by James Walter Orr

The Music

Sweet music falls on the maiden's ears.
Her lover catches her sweaty palm.
The sweet notes fall and the sound endears.
Their breathing hastens, becomes less calm.
The scent of her breath is all he smells.
Her breast in his hand is all he feels.
The words of his love is all he tells.
His kiss on her neck, their passion seals.

The music slows and their glances search,
As one by one the lamps all go on.
The chickens go to their night-time perch.
The shades that were open now are drawn.
The sun goes down on another day.
The music softens and fades away.
