The No Poem by Evelyn Judy Buehler

The No

As if 'twere written in granite,
Stands the No.The No, No, No.
Despite controversy it may incite-
Imperious No.The No, No, No.

Often said and heard,
And dreams turn to ashes.
No one's favorite word-
The cruel tongue lashes!

Get to know the No,
Sometimes an iron-clad friend,
Impenetrable as nights in Moscow;
The beginning of the end.

The No's a desert bloom,
And storm cloud on blue skies-
Smiling doom in the midnight hour of gloom,
Intended to paralyze!

Awe inspiring No!The No, No, No,
Is reason and has power,
But, often is unwelcome, though-
Rational, lonely, determined, shadow flower!
