The Old Fellow Dan Poem by Francis Duggan

The Old Fellow Dan

Time does go so quickly says the old fellow Dan
It does not seem that long ago since i was a young man
But i am more than five decades past my physical prime
And in human years this does seem a very long time
Many of the friends of my younger years ageing far away
And some where the deceased are at peace forever lay
And i who love the hometown at home choose to stay
And i grow old not far from where i first saw light of day
One who has grown old without any children in his life
The woman that Dan loved became another man's wife
Physically far better days in life he surely of has known
In his early eighties he lives on his own
With his ever faithful animal friend his black Labrador Tim
And everywhere that he is his dog is with him.
