The Older I Get Poem by OJO Peter

The Older I Get

The older I get, the more that I see
That love is a difficult thing to be
It doesn't always work, as I've learned
And oftentimes, my heart has been burned

I've loved and lost, and loved again
But sometimes love just comes to an end
It's hard to keep the flames burning bright
When life's struggles and challenges ignite

I've shed many tears for love that's gone
And wondered why I couldn't hold on
But sometimes, love just slips away
Leaving us with nothing left to say

The older I get, the more that I know
That love is a bittersweet and fragile show
It takes a lot of work to make it last
And even then, it can slip through our grasp

But even though love can bring us pain
It's worth the risk, again and again
For in those moments of pure bliss
We find the greatest joy that exists

So even though it's hard, and it may not work
I'll keep on loving, through every hurt
For in the end, it's all we truly need
To make this life a little less bleak
