The One Thing She Could Not Have In Life Poem by alan brown

The One Thing She Could Not Have In Life

This feeling overcame me
as I walked into the room.
Was it truly independent
or had I awakened far to soon.

I could see her sitting not far away
with a twinkle in her eye
But this overwhelming feeling
still made me wonder why.

Had she came to understand me
or just to sit and glare,
While touching up her make up
and straitening out her hair.

Now everything became apparent
as she opened with a smile
That she hadn't came to apologize
but wanted to compromise.

She had taken all my money
and our stately home.
So what had she came back for
as there was nothing left to own.

My heart it started pounding
as she rose from out the chair
And started to walk towards me
seemly without a care.

I then knew at that moment
what she had returned to take.
But It was something I couldent give her
As I knew it would only break.

She had taken all my riches
and destroyed my pleasant life
And returned to break my heart again
The one thing she could not have in her life.

Oh! Alan, can you still not see? That was the defining moment, both for her and you.
