The One Who Makes Equal Poem by Francis Duggan

The One Who Makes Equal

'Tis true enough that pride comes before a fall
And before we took our first step we learned how to crawl
And one day we must answer to the reaper's call
The one who makes equal the great and the small,
The one who makes equal the pauper and king
But his praises few ever bother to sing
And why all the worry that brings about stress
And why crave for more when we can live on less
And many grow poorer for every new millionaire
And many will tell you all in life is fair
So many look up to the one who wears the crown
But many of their sort on others look down
And though none ever for him shouts a hip hooray
The reaper will make us all equal one day.
