The Only Bitterness Poem by William Jackson

The Only Bitterness

The only bitterness in poetry
that speaks a harshness
I can embrace,
Stephen Crane
once penned.

So much poetry today,
sounds pathetic,
whiney, in contrast
to his.

The clear voice of Crane said
“I like it because it is bitter
and because it is my heart.”
