The Past Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

The Past

If we were living,
To bring up the past.
Which has no presence,
Of being in the present in it.
Shouldn't that have been done.
With that to get over.
And this to be known,
That a living in the present...
Is much more beneficial.

Yet few will do this to move ahead,
From a present to experience and live.
Then to prepare from there,
To accept a future coming.
That could have everyone participating.
Awaiting and ready to make known,
A wish to want and desire to see...
A better life lived than it was.

Or is progress,
Making efforts to endeavor it...
With a moving forward to do this,
Just a myth!
Something to envision.
But the past?
To have live it and had...
Many can't let go,
Of romanticizing what it wasn't.
But could have been.
Stuck in embellished memories reminisced.
