The Peanuts & The Diviner

THE PEANUTS & THE DIVINER

In Sex Ed.,
she tells me

that

(as we slowly colour it
in)

“The man’s...thing...is called...”

“The Peanuts! ”

She smiles(so
pleased with her self)
for remembering.

I don’t correct her
(she’s on a roll now)
I go...with her flow.

And following swiftly
on from...that:

“The woman’s thing...is called..? ”

“Yes...yes! ”

(Yes, it’s her again!)

thrilled that...she knows!

“The Diviner! ”

I’m almost weak with laughter.
and for the week & the week after

they too
become for me:

the Peanuts! & the Diviner!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Scarlett Treat 15 February 2008

Out of the mouths of the true innocents...the children of all ages...comes the truth as they see it. How totally marvelous it must be to be a teacher and recieve these gifts (with the ability, of course, to keep a straight face! !)
