The Power Of Love Poem by Alexander Thomas

The Power Of Love

Love cannot choose,
To its almighty will we must lose,
For life made a slave,
To the emotion we ardently crave,
A secret burgeoning inside,
From its majesty we should not hide,
Its splendour will astound,
But to it we are ultimately bound,
It rests in the hands of fate,
To determine a preordained state,
Beyond any price,
It is a worthy sacrifice,
Love will break your heart,
And split your soul apart,
Love will question your sanity,
But it is what gives us humanity,
If we were to be set free,
One another we would fail to see,
If we had the faculty of choice,
We would feel nothing to rejoice,
The power of love must overwhelm,
To show us the glory of the divine realm,
Love is the only infinite emotion,
Edifying us to a megalithic notion,
To discern the appreciation of beauty,
A lifelong service to do duty,
A guiding force for good,
The warmth throbbing in our blood,
A brilliant leading light,
That brings clarity to sight,
Ancient wisdom enshrined,
A shared destiny entwined,
An age old mystery,
Linking our family history,
But do not kill or maim,
In the fury of its name,
Love is a truth softly spoken,
And a trust bitterly broken,
The root of compassion,
The future we must fashion,
Let it show you the way,
The kind word obey.
