The Road Poem by Alexander Thomas

The Road

Life is the road you dare not take,
The odyssey I never imagined I would make,
Stumbling and fumbling, I wandered and I pondered,
Lost as distant paths I crossed,
At my beard pulling with my destiny mulling.

This pilgrimage found me and set me free,
Much I learned as the way twisted and turned,
I was searching for the hidden treasure,
As love drove me further and further beyond measure,
I found home but I travelled alone.

I followed the horizon beyond the hills,
Seeking the thrills that only ardent love fulfils,
I ventured to exotic lands with grasping hands,
I climbed to dizzying heights exploring the delights,
And I'll keep shouldering the load as I need the road!

Because if truth be told I'm not part of the fold,
For me the material world holds no weight,
To be consumed by creative passion was to be my fate!
I am surrounded by strangers who are blind,
For I crave the company of my own kind…

I just want the simple things that nature brings,
That come with wings and a little heart that sings,
Down where the water springs,
To swim in the brook where none do look,
There we can find our nook!

I found my voice and for that I rejoice,
But I never made that choice!
In that you are mistaken.
Maybe I am forsaken? But to this truth you must awaken!
Our roads will converge and the sunlight will emerge!
