The Power Of Words Poem by Jay Porter

The Power Of Words

Rating: 5.0

The Power of words
Words have power, I'm not just talking about poetry
Words to fill a heart and put the mind at ease
Or rip holes in heads and destroy sanity

Words to fill fact, making them powerful and persuasive
People speak slyly, so elusive and evasive

Exact words to impact and break baises
Pacts and promises, creating contracts

Words are power, the basis of religion
Read a book, bite the bait, stuck on the hook
Spend your whole life following a mission

Words give personality to the protagonist
They give power to the people
The nazis knew

The books are burning, what were their kids learning
"He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future."
Modeling minds to be cruel and unkind
Adolf Hitler said that, he was a stickler, but he wasn't stupid

It was words that held the power, not some arrow shot by cupid
Words, to cover up something you did
Large lies, like chains ensuring demise

They give power to the powerless
"Because I remember, I despair. Because I remember, I have the duty to reject despair." Elie Wiesel

The personification of passion
They allow change to happen
Said by a king, "I have a dream"
Words are without a doubt, a powerful thing.
