The Promise Poem by Randy McClave

The Promise

She stood by the grave
Where her dead husband now lies,
She remembers the promise that he gave
So, she still cries.
She writes a loving letter
To her caring, loving husband dear,
Wishing for herself to feel a little better
As she sheds yet another tear.
She wrote, "You use to always say to me"
"That we will live happy and we will always be together",
"We would fill each other with joy and glee"
"Through time, and all hardships and all weather".
She wrote, "Now here alone I now stand"
"But, as you promised me you are not there", .
So, then with scissors in her hand
She left at his grave a lock of her dark brown hair.
She wrote, "I still remember the oath that you did say"
"That brought love and peace to my mind, "
"Until our hair turns white we would die on the same day"
"So, how could you go ahead and leave me behind? "
