The Protector Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

The Protector

Rating: 5.0

Scores of sportspersons
including a minor, raped by
the head of the federation
complain to the police.

They are pride of the nation
have won many medals
in international meets
including the Olympic Games.

Protection extended
to the rapist by the police
for, the complainants
'produced no evidence.'

Still, laws say otherwise.
But, laws are just laws
are meant to be broken
by those in power.

Come, all the rapists
from all over the world,
to this unfortunate country
and join the ruling party,

and they will be protected
from the rule of law,
for, laws are just laws
are meant to be broken.

Demand for impartial
enquiry by International
Olympic Association?
'No evidence! '

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

My sympathies lie with these brave individuals. They are the pride of our nation, and yet, instead of investigating their complaints of misbehavior and rape, the government is attempting to oppress them through legal and police means...

Very strong expression of anger against the ruling party that open the gates for criminals and corrupt officials. A well expressed poem.

A very powerful and thoughtful poem. A wake up call to all specially those who have been bestowed with upholding the laws and rights of every individual.

A wake up call? Right! The wake up call is for those who are asleep. But those who feign asleep can not be woken up by these calls… Really

Although this wonderful poem which is full of sarcasm is a product of imagination, there are of some similar cases that have been ruled in favor of the aggrieved parties. But there are also cases that the rule of law has been blind to the cries of these victims.

In the banana republic we are speaking of, rule of law is just a fantasy…Dear Poet.
