The Refugees/ The Migrants Poem by Hebert Logerie

The Refugees/ The Migrants

The refugees come from everywhere
Sometimes they flee oppression or war
Sometimes they flee persecution or misery
They trot and run like crazy
To save their lives and their skin
They are no fools; they're smart and keen.

The refugees are the victims of an infernal system
Sometimes they flee ignorance and hell
Sometimes they flee injustice and jail
The migrants, like you and I, dream of a better future
We flee death and horror
We flee insecurity and wrecked dam.

The refugees want to improve their lives
By fleeing all ills under the tents
Dictatorship, famine, stupidity, violence
Terror, racism, nonsense, and toxic hives
They are always in search of peace
Please give shelter to those who are homeless
Feed those who are sick, thirsty and hungry
Love those who are suffering and mourning
Help those who are bleeding and dying
And protect Mother Nature and humanity.

We are all refugees on this Land
We are all temporary residents
We are all visitors under the tents
We wonder and wander as the wind
Silently, we are praying and singing
We pass as the seasons: spring
Summer, fall and winter
We seek hope and dignity as we cross the border
As we walk on the green lawn of the bridge
God is watching us along the edge.

P.S. This poem is dedicated to our brothers and sisters, our fugees, our refugees.
