The Rendezvous Poem by Ranju Mozammel Haque

The Rendezvous

Rating: 5.0

I got this brittle feeling that
You would come!
You would not disappoint me - after all!
This virile temptation to cuddle
The frugal time -
Was such a monotony - my love!
And I was beseeching
Your coveted arrival.

Eons of time I spent foolishly
For the carnival to begin -
The riveting time capsule
Has everything engraved on its diary -
My soulless sojourn!
The collapsing photo frame,
The battered memoir,
The smeared smile depicts
Neither joy nor sorrow!
I try to relive time -
Our collective lives,
And our passionate love affair!

And then this vengeance come by
And cling onto our faces -
It coddles and cossets
Our bereft union.
The broken mirror
No more tells any fairy tale.
We hide behind our ugly veils -
Ah, the staggered zombies we become!
The impressive pedigree
We once swanked are here no more -
But our curly pathos,
Our corkscrewed vintage dreams
Chime a strange song!

The nest is where a weary bird
Finds solace -
The perilous flipping
Of its tired wings in the day's rigor -
The resting banyan trees
At the distant far away land
Drifts farther aloof!

Yet I know you would come along - my love,
One day!
Only to see me vulnerable
And broken like a shattered glass.
Oh! How much you wish to see me
Pleading guilty
And down at my knees
With jagged remorse!
