The River Beach Poem by Margaret O Driscoll

The River Beach

Rating: 5.0

At a kiosk I get vanilla ice cream
topped with apricot puree
In a gentle breeze from the river
I watch a weeping willow sway
I walk past ancient oak trees
a squirrel scampers out of reach
Soon I see the sun shine brightly
I've arrived at the river beach

A long stretch of golden sand,
the wide river sparkles in the sun
Everyone dressed in swimwear,
sunbathing, playing ball, having fun
An oasis in the heat of mid Summer,
paradise at the edge of the town
The river beach is warm and inviting
I place my towel on the sand and lie down
