The Road To Nowhere Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

The Road To Nowhere

There is a road, wide and smooth,
lined with lights that flicker like promises,
whispers of ease, of quick triumph,
where footsteps echo hollow but loud,
drowning out the small voice that questions.

It asks for nothing but your attention,
feeds on the comfort of unexamined days,
thrives in the warmth of fleeting pleasures,
the kind that vanish before morning finds you.
You walk because it's simple--
because you can.

But the miles leave you emptier than when you began.
Landmarks blur into shadows,
faces fade into strangers,
and the horizon, once bright with possibility,
shrinks into a line too thin to hold hope.

You do not notice the weight at first,
how it settles in your chest,
how it grows with every step unchallenged,
every choice made without thought,
until your heart forgets how to beat for more.

And when you finally stop,
when silence replaces the noise you mistook for meaning,
you will see that the road has given you nothing,
only taken--
your time, your purpose, your soul.

The road to nowhere does not end;
it simply disappears beneath your feet,
leaving you standing
in the absence of everything
you thought you were walking toward.
