The Sands Of Broken Dreams Poem by Syed Mizbahuddeen

The Sands Of Broken Dreams

Stars of the night
Outshined by the day
Uncountably many
But they ALL FADE AWAY

But then again, the mornings
Have never kept me up at night
And then again, these mournings
Have never left me left to die

Unlike so many
That have left or want to be left
Alone. That I still hold on to, yearning
For the right to be right
This once.

Lights
Don't make me see any hope, anymore
Do the skies not guide lost souls anymore?
You see, but don't, words.don't rhyme, anymore
For when the heart is dead
WHAT of the lacuna in my chest?
The desert which once held
Palaces magical, and forts and entire
Civilizations of hopes and dreams

And what of this prayer that's left
Unanswered. (that I've buried within)
While I myself lay here left, alone,
Half-buried, the sands of broken dreams
Are deep.
And the all stars have faded.
Don't preach me patience.
Now that my heart is a desert,
And this thirst brings me death.
