The Shame Of The Learned Wig Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

The Shame Of The Learned Wig

Rating: 5.0

When the acclaimed learned advocates
Wilfully decides to unlearn unceremoniously
For chronic selfishness and avarice
To deliver a raped judgement
Robbing the vast populace their mandate
That even the illiterates see the injustice

The nation is thrown into mourning service
With faces red hot like molten magma
Tears flowing freely like the 'Otamiri' river
And the effect of the tears on the hot magma
Create ugly hisses of terrible anger
That cause hearts to beat like thunder

Clearly it is just a question of time
For the people to demand their right
Cos from which point you gaze the sky
All you see is haziness and darkness
Evidence for the unprecedented torrent.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A presidential election was conducted and the masses voted for the candidate of their choice. However, the electoral umpire declared another person the winner. The opposite parties appealed to the election tribunal but the tribunal in a very unpopular judgement upheld the decision of the electoral umpire. The masses are vexed and there is tension. The case is going to the supreme court now. We are waiting and not sure what will happen next.
