The Sight Of You Poem by Jade Leven

The Sight Of You

the smell of the grass
the sound of cars passing on a nearby street
the sight of you
all in a day, one hundred things so sweet
we walked on the pavement
through the California twilight
and we talked in the park
until we saw the first signs of night
I laid down on the ground
and you did, too, and you faced me
and as I was looking into you
love was the only thing I could see

the strangest thought
came to me as we looked up at the sky
you looked beautiful
did I look too far behind your eyes?
I can't possibly have wanted
to tell you that you looked beautiful
I guess I did
because you truly are
beautiful to me.
